Meet our Sellers: theVINGE Edition!
Who doesn't love a good vintage find? We live for it over here at The Neighborhood Flea. And...so does Jodi Hilliard from theVINGE. Find out about the finding of the name, some really neat finds and put some info to the faces you'll be seeing this Saturday 12-5 at the Pittsburgh Public Market!
Mac and Gold Truck. Vegan donuts. Quality cocktails. theVINGE. Seriously, where else could you possibly be?
How did theVINGE come to be? I started selling vintage on Etsy under the name jojoluvsjon in 2009. I ended up closing that shop and then eventually reopened a new one under the name the Vinge. I came up with that name because I was always binging on vintage so binge +vintage = theVINGE!
What do you love most about vintage?
Giving old things a new chance at life! Reusing, repurposing, recycling,upcycling..whatever you want to call it. Plus, I am a bit nostalgic and love pieces that remind me of my childhood or decorations that my mother had. Especially CHRISTMAS ones!
What's the coolest thing you have ever come across?
Hmmm. There's been a lot of awesome things! I did find a vintage Gianni Versace silk blouse at a thrift store for $1.95. I sold it for a little bit more than that ;)
What's your favorite Pittsburgh neighborhood and why?
I am madly in love with our city..there are so many great neighborhoods like Lawrenceville, Shadyside, and the North Side. I live in Sewickley Village and am quite happy with our little neck of the woods too!
Tell us a little about yourself and anything neat hobbies you like!
In addition to my vintage selling obsession, I work in the petroleum industry and have done so for the past 14 years. I work on the chemical side of the business and mainly with diesel fuel (I make it cleaner and more energyefficient!). I also love dogs; we actually have 4 tiny chihuahuas that let us live in their house! LOL! I work with the Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego and 2 of our 4 dogs came from them. We have flown in 12 dogs over the past couple of years and found homes for them in Pittsburgh. Don't shop, ADOPT is my motto when it comes to dogs! Otherwise, I;ve been happily married to my hubby, Jon, for the past 8 years and have 2 step-children who are 19 and 17.
What is this Beekman 1802 Vintage Collection you speak of?
I am the curator of the Beekman 1802 Vintage Collection. I met the "Fabulous Beekman Boys" 1.5 years ago at a festival they hosted in their hometown, Sharon Springs, NY. After returning home, I wondered to myself why they weren't selling vintage on their website since it fit their overall aesthetic to do so. So, I sent them an email and they liked the idea. That was in July of 2013. We went "live" in October of 2013 and have been going strong ever since. It's a lot of fun and they are awesome people to work with. I buy, photograph, list and ship all the vintage pieces sold on their website and it keeps me plenty busy!
